LOST FINDINGS
Acrylic and indian ink on canvas, 150x120cm, 2017-2019 and Pombaline-style tiles from the 18th century
The result of the act of painting a story that was lost in time.
I do my multi-disciplinary artwork in my Lisbon studio (Rua de São Julião – Baixa), where I subtly work along the boundary line between the graphic and plastic arts. This frontier zone is also the central theme in my plastic artwork.
The Pombaline-style tiles used in the post-earthquake are, as a moment in time, characteristic of a period of economic crisis and the need to rapidly rebuild the city of Lisbon. This piece of tile, salvaged from the recent renovation works on a building in Rua São Julião, is the fragment of place and reflection of memory which serves as the basis for this cartographic visual impression.
