LOST FINDINGS

Acrylic and Indian ink on canvas (2017–2019), displayed alongside 18th-century tiles in the Pombaline style.

The Pombaline-style tiles used in the post-earthquake reconstruction represent a moment in time marked by economic crisis and the urgent need to rebuild the city of Lisbon. This particular fragment, salvaged from recent renovation works on a building on Rua de São Julião (near my studio), is both a trace of place and a reflection of memory — forming the foundation for this cartographic visual impression.

Two moments in history overlap here, where the transformation of this place is driven by violent forces impacting those who live in it: the great earthquake of the 18th century, and the current process of touristification.
